You have been pinning like crazy lately, and you have a ton of awesome resources that you are dying to share with your audience! But when you go onto your Pinterest page, it is not giving off the vibe that you were hoping for. It looks like a mishmash of stuff instead of the branding powerhouse that you want it to look like. Did you know that you can create custom branded board covers for all your Pinterest boards? Branded board covers will give you that extra bit of polish that will set you apart from all of the other brands out there. You don’t need Photoshop for this, although you can use it if you have it. In the video below, I walk you through the steps of creating your branded board cover on a free image editing site called Pixlr and uploading it to Pinterest. Pixlr has many of the same basic features as Photoshop, including the ability to create layered files. This is great because once you create the board cover template, you can save it as a layered file and keep it for whenever you create a new board. IF you have Photoshop, you can follow the same steps below.
Pinterest Board Cover How-to from Desiree Jester on Vimeo.
Open up a new Pixlr or Photoshop file with dimensions of 735px x 735px
Open up your background file (if using one) and move the board over so you can see both open files
Grab the background file layer and drag/drop it over to the new file
Resize using free transform to fit the board
Use transparency slider if necessary
Repeat process for adding your logo if desired
Open up a text layer
Choose font ( uses fonts installed on your computer to match branding )
Choose color ( high contrast – use logo colors to match branding )
Type text, then choose font size for optimal readability
Create a new text layer for every line
Save as PNG or JPG
Save as layered file
Navigate over to your Pinterest page and click the + button at the bottom right of the page.
Upload your image, choose the board you want it to go into, and write a simple description for the image like Cover Board.
Once you have uploaded your cover image onto your Pinterest board, go onto your Pinterest page and click Edit under the board you are looking to cover. Click Change Cover under the Edit options, choose the image you just uploaded, reposition it if needed, and click Save Changes. Voila! You have a customized board cover for your Pinterest board. Repeat these steps until you have covered all of your boards, and enjoy the seamless look of your Pinterest page!

Beautiful website! It’s apparent you’ve worked hard on it. Maybe move the Leave a Comment button to the bottom of the post? It’s somewhat annoying to have to scroll to the top to leave a note.

Smart! I am definitely giving this a try, would love my pinterest boards to stand out a bit more while also being more cohesive..

Great post, I love Pinterest. I’m in the (very slow) process of changing all of my board covers to black & white photos… it gets hard when the board is all about another color – this might be where a custom made cover would work great! Thanks for sharing!
