As the year comes to a close, it seems like everyone is gearing up for 2015 with major planning sessions. I am excited to go over my business in the past year (joining in with Megan Flatt’s My Tiny Empire Challenge) to celebrate the wins and to analyze the losses to make 2015 an even more freedom-filled and profitable than last year.
However, in the midst of all this planning and strategy for the new year, combined with the stress of the holiday season, I didn’t want to lose out on the wonder that is this time of year so I decided to take a page out of Kristin’s book and document my December. The premise is simple. Take a picture (or more) each day and journal a little blurb about it, whether you caption it on Instagram or Facebook, or you do something tangible like placing them in a journal or scrapbook.
I am choosing to document my December the Project Life way. If you have never heard of Project Life, it is a hybrid of scrapbooks and those photo albums that our parents used to stick all of our vacation pictures in. There are plastic photo pocket pages that you insert photos and journaling cards into to create various layouts within your album. It is fantastically fun and incredibly simple. I’m going to use my photo printer at home with some holiday and winter themed Project Life journaling cards to write about the events of this month, then put them all together in a mini album after the holidays.
Some of the things that I already know I want to document are
- Favorite Christmas Movies
- Holiday traditions
- Favorite Christmas Carols
- Favorite winter books – both for my son and for me
- What we’re getting everyone for Christmas
- My Post its from the My Tiny Empire challenge
- The final work projects of the year
- Cutting down our Christmas tree
- Our annual cookie swap party
- Snow fun – we live in Maine so that is an inevitable certainty 😉
- Wrapping presents
- Christmas dinner
- Reading and watching my way through the Harry Potter series with my friends
I have already noticed the difference in my perspective when I take the time to be mindful of all the joy that is to be found among the doldrums and routine of my life as a wife, mom, and entrepreneur. After all, the reason that I started my own business was so I could share my passions and talents with the world while not having to miss out on the things that are important to me outside of my business.
I challenge you to Document December with me! What traditions and fun things do you look forward to doing this time of year? How can you document them? Leave me a comment and let me know!

I’ve never heard of Project Life, but it looks awesome! I usually make Shutterfly books, but I like that this is kind of a hybrid, very cool!

I love that you are doing this! I read Elise Blaha Cripe’s blog everday, and she is super into project life too. It is my goal to do a daily (insert month here) project this year! I was thinking of doing it this month, but I think December is gonna be to hectic, gotst lotsa cakes to design!!
But I have decided to take on a fun, albeit, work related project. I am designing a set of prints that revolve around everything I love!
Thank you for sharing your Daily December, I can’t wait to tackle mine!

Oh! And I totally want to host a cookie swap party now!

I love this!! I used to document like this all the time before I started my business, but since becoming so busy, I’ve stopped.
Beautiful website, by the way!
